The Korean situation

The current situation on the Korean peninsula might seem tense when reading the news but we see little of it here. The Finnish embassy sent us e-mails this morning commenting on the situation and assuring us that there is no immediate risk and that they see no need for evacuating Finns from the country like North Korea suggested all foreigners do. According to the e-mail sent by the embassy there is no acute danger targeted to foreigners and therefore South Korea is still classified as a safe destination.

Our Estonian team members got e-mail from their embassy on Friday and their message stated roughly the same thing. The Estonian government also recommended their citizens to avoid certains areas that may be in higher risk of a possible missile attack.

Being inland in smaller and stategically insignificant smaller cities seems safe. Chugbuk is in the middle of the country about 100km from Seoul so the likeliness of us seeing any missile activity here is extremely small. Also, we are in very good hands and in case of emergency Kristjan has promised to show us how to prepare for a nuclear attack Estonian 1970's style using bandages and cotton wool to build a gas mask.

Still, we do as the embassy encourages us and follow the situation closely.

Peaceful landscapes in Chungbuk.
